Veselin Topalov – в„–1 in the world

Veselin Topalov is officially at the top of the January rankings of the International chess federation (FIDE). Four Bulgarian chess masters are among the elites of the world.

FIDE publishes two official rankings – one in January and one in July. All other rankings are interstital. The 19th world champion Veselin Topalov is at the top of the men rankings with an individual coefficient ELO 2796 points.

The young Bulgarian chess master Ivan Cheparinov is 46th in the January rankings with ELO 2679 points. The ex-selectionist of the male Bulgarian national team, the international chess master Kiril Georgiev, ranks 99th with coefficient ELO 2634 points.

In the women rankings, the ex-worldwide and ex-European champion Antoaneta Stefanova is 4th in the January rankings of FIDE with individual coefficient ELO 2557 points.
