The fair in Plovdiv will pay 300 000 leva fine due to monopoly

The High Administrative Court confirmed a fine of 300 000 leva fot the “International Fair Plovdiv” AD for their misuse of their leading position. The fine was imposed by the Commission for competition protection in October 2008, but was appealed against by the company.

The fine was imposed because of the conditions of the fair for the companies that want to construct their own show stalls. The business organizations alarmed authorities that the fair is requiring higher taxes for personal stalls, and keep their prices for the same services lower.

The ambassador of Belgium Filip Beke also complained of these violations. It was also determined that there are no clear conditions for the contract to construct a new stall by a third party company. According to the Commission for competition protection, this is a misuse of the fair management’s leader position.
