The third and final night of this year’s Kaliakra rock fest ended with the sound of progressive metal.

The evening was opened by the fusion-trash band Cynic. They were unknown to many, and this contributed to the somewhat static crowd. The band has only two albums behind their backs and are still unfamiliar to the average metal fan. Those that knew Cynic however, were ready for and very happy with their performance.

They were followed by the awaited headliner Dream Theater. The thick sound and perfect form of the musicians brought joy to the legion of fans. Long guitar interludes, masterful solos by the genius Petrucci, the tireless drumming of Mike Portnoy and the flawless performances was exactly what each of the 7000 fans wanted.

The final words of Dream Theater ended both the show and this year’s Kaliakra rock fest. Everyone was suddenly nostalgic about the past three days, but were soon enthusiastic to suggest bands for the next year’s rock festival. Most of the metal heads found strength to carry the party on in the huge “party tents” around the stage.
