Bulgarian movies at the Cannes Film Festival

The debut movie of the young Bulgarian director Kamen Kalev “Eastern plays” was added to the main program of the Cannes Film Festival – the fifteen days of film directors. The last time that Bulgaria presented itself in the most important festival of the film industry was with the movie “The Camp” by Georgi Diulgerov and the movie “Margarit and Margarita” by Nikolai Volev back in 1990.

The Bulgarian presence in Cannes is complemented by the movie “The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner”. The expectations of the international distributor “m-appeal” are to increase the sales of the movie after the MEDIA program decided to support the European distribution of the film. So far, “The World Is Big…” has been sold in 12 countries, participated in over 30 international festivals and has 10 international awards. “The World Is Big…” will be shown on May 17th at 20:30 in the Palace of cinema (Pallais E).

The platform for co-productions of the Cannes Film Festival – “Producers Network” approved of another Bulgarian project – the full-length animation “Mexican express” by Andrey Paunov and Boris Despodov, selected after it’s successful run in the last “Sofia Meetings”.
