International day of peace celebrations in Sofia

On September 21 the entire world celebrates International day of peace, declared in a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 and later in 2001.

On this occasion a procession was conducted today. It began today at 10:30p.m. at the National Theatre ‘Ivan Vazov’, went through ‘Tsar Osvoboditel’ boulevard and ‘Rakovski’ street and stopped at the Monument to the unknown warrior.

An address from the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon was read. In front of the gathered people spoke also representatives of the United Nations Association of Bulgaria, the Union of the veterans in Bulgaria and others.

With one minute of silence the presents became empathic with the millions of people around the world, silently supporting the idea of world peace.

The celebrations will continue this evening at 6:00p.m. at the open-air stage at South park in Sofia.
