“Geratsite” premiers today in the “Odeon” cinema theatre

Today at 17:00 PM the cinema theatre “Odeon” will host the premiere of the new movie based on the novel “Geratsite” of the bulgarian classical writer Elin Pelin. The director of the modern film version is Maxim Genchev, who is also the script writer and plays the main role.

The production has two variations: a 90-minute movie and a 4-part serial for television. This is the second film adaptation of the movie; the first was made in 1958.

The film was shot in the region of the village Golema Rakovitsa, and in the house-museum of Elin Pelin himself. According to some researches, the prototype for one of the heroes of the novel – Iordan Geraka – was the father of Elin Pelin.

The movie was shot in under a month – between July and August 2008.

“Geratsite” is a 104 years old piece, but remains a cultural symbol of great importance to Bulgaria. “The sound of coin destroys the sound of hearts” was the warning that Elin Pelin left a century ago, and it still remains relevant in time.
