The captain of Bulgaria’s national sumo team Petar Stoyanov, a.k.a. the Chief, triumphed Sunday with a gold medal at the Men’s Openweight at the 2008 USA Sumo Open in Los Angeles, California.

In the final the 150-kilogram, 195-centimeter Bulgarian defeated his opponent, Byambajav Ulambayar, to whom he lost last year’s final.

In the Men’s Heavyweight competition (the 115kg + category), however, Bulgaria’s Stoyanov had to settle for a silver medal as this time he lost to Byambajav Ulambayar.

Thirty-five sumo amateur athletes competed in Los Angeles Sports Arena for the Men’s Openweight title.
