Bulgarians are the first beach volleyball champions of the Balkans

The duo from Kardjali Valentin Dimov/Kiril Hadjiev, who represented Bulgaria at the first beach volleyball championship of the Balkans, defeated the Serbian duo Stefan Basta/Igror Tesic at the finals with 2:0 (23:21, 21:19). Thus, the prestigious title goes to the Bulgarian team.

In the preliminary A group, the Bulgarian team lost to the Serbian duo and to the Turkish duo, ending second in the group, In the elimination rounds however, Dimov and Hadjiev showed no compromise and won with 2:0 their games against Bronza/Tonku (Romania), Kongalidis/Razk (Greece) and Basta/Tesic (Serbia). They faced the Serbians once again at the finals and won again without losing any of the parts.

This is the first beach volleyball championship of the Balkans for the age group up to 23 years. It should have started in 2008 in Albania, but due to a penalty for the Albanian federation and the lack of another host, it was delayed until 2009.
