Submitted on Tuesday, 3 February 2009No Comment

Bulgaria insists on a new gas contract with Russia that will have guarantees, that a stopping of gas shipments will not happen again. The chief executive of “Bulgargas” Dimitar Gogov said, that the gas crisis in January that left Bulgaria without natural gas for fifteen days accelerated the planned review of the contracts with the Russian gas company “Gazprom”.

Negotiations can begin as early as Wednesday, when a delegation lead by the Bulgarian president Georgi Parvanov will arrive on an official visit in Moscow.

“The main goal is to guarantee to both countries that the contract will be fulfilled. We have to reach an agreement on how to defend our best interests, so that we don’t repeat the January crisis”, added Gogov.
