6 000 balloons flew over Sofia

6 000 balloons were released in the sky above Sofia on Febryary 28th as a symbol of the people registered with rare diseases. Vladimir Tomov, chairman of the Association of the people with rare diseases said that the patients in Bulgaria are over a thousand, and their treatment is often less than adequate.

The Association hopes to develop a register of the people with rare diseases to at least partially resolve the issue. Yesterday was the day of rare diseases – it’s marked on each last day of February, because February 29th is the rarest day of the year, much like the rare diseases. The events today were under the patronage of the Zorka Parvanova, wife of the Bulgarian president.
