We go towards the introduction of the Euro

“The introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria is not a privilege – it’s an engagement that we agreed to when we joined the European Union”, said the chief executive of the Bulgarian National Bank Ivan Iskrov at a Bulgarian business and investment forum today.

“Until our entry in the Eurozone, we will keep the currency board and the fixed currency course”, added Iskrov. He reminded of the decision of the EU and the European central bank to make the countries with currency boards that will switch to Euro to go through ERM2, keeping their currency boards until the moment they change to Euro.

“On this basis, we established a strategy in 2004 and we haven’t changed it since then”, noted Iskrov.

According to the chief executive of the Bulgarian National Bank, Bulgaria waits to calm down the inflation, before taking the next step.
