“The sixth consecutive edition of the “Bulgarian Christmas” was once again successful, with over 3 million leva gathered”, announced the president of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov at the official ceremony that was dedicated to the results of the campaign.

According to the president, fewer businessmen participated in this year’s charity initiative, which was understandable in the context of the global economical crisis.

The level of small scale donation was kept – 1,2 million leva came from phone calls. The one-time donations up to 300 leva were also frequent.

The president noted that the goal of the initiative is not meant only to gather funds for the medical care of children in need, but also to awaken the feeling of solidarity and sympathy, which was smothered during the years of many questionable, non-transparent charity campaigns.
