Sofia will apply for UNESCO

The nomination program of the Historical center in Sofia for International cultural heritage was approved by the Municipality council of Sofia, announced Darik radio. The program plans to put an effective stop to construction in the parts of the Sofia centre with historical importance within two weeks. This was announced by the municipality counsellor Villi Lilkov.

If all measures of the program get done by the letter, Sofia can apply to be a part of the cultural program of UNESCO in 2011.

Lilkov shared that there’s a lot to work on with the approved program. Among the tasks is the realization of the project between the church “St. Spas” and the largo; another task involves the renewal of the amphitheatre on Budapest str. According to the municipality councellor, the National institute for cultural monuments, the government and the municipality of Sofia should all work to ban the possibility of consutrction near the historically important sites in the capital’s centre.
