“Smolian is now not only a great place for tourism, but also a great place to live in”, said the president Georgi Paravanov during the opening of the renovated street “Aleko Konstantinov” in the city. He added, that he envied the people of smolian for this street and he wished that some day “Tsarigradsko shose” (a prominent street in Sofia) will look the same way.

According to the president, places like Smolian show, that we are already able to compete successfully against the well known tourist destinations of Europe.

Earlier that day, Georgi Paravanov visited the stronghold of Momchil, which was renovated after the work of archeologists and was turned into a tourist site.

“The stronghold of Momchil is connected with some of the most ferocious fights against our slavers for the preservation of the bulgarian spirit, nationality and character”, pointed out the president.

According to him, when a man climbs the peak, he realizes what the mountains Rodopi are, what Bulgaria is – the incredible nature, the rich history, the exceptional music.

“This region is no longer forsaken from God or the institutions”, said the president Paravanov. He symbolically received the keys for the stronghold of Momchil.

After the discussions, the president Paravanov announced that during the following months ideas for special laws and preferences for mountainous regions will be talked over.
