Festival of the national costumes in Jeravna

For the second consecutive year, the park “Dobromeritsa” in Jeravna hosts the festival of national costumes. The newly introduced European mark for authenticity, whose goal is to renew authentic crafts and other traditional experiences, is in the core of the event.

During the course of three days, the participants live as their ancestors did 100 – 150 years ago. The requirement for participants is to wear traditional garments at all times. Their mobile phones have to remain turned off. Cigarettes can be smoked only if they were taken from a cigarette box and lighted with a match. There is electricity and water, but no benches. The guests have to sit on traditional rugs. The food is provided in ceramic plates and the dishes are exclusively traditional. Six lambs are baked at all times. Rakia (strong brandy-like alcohol) and wine is provided in bottles with no recognizable brands.

The festival takes place each third week of August for over 30 years now, boasts the mayor of Jeravna Lachezar Germanov.
