Eighth air-bridge for the Sofia Airport
An eighth air-bridge will be constructed in the Sofia airport. It will cost 700 thousand euro and will once again be constructed by the Spanish company “Tim”.
Unlike the other telescopic air-bridges that take passengers to their planes, this one will also feature a door with stairs in the middle, which takes passengers to the public area. This was announced by the manager of the airport Rostislav Bachvarov.
According to the project capacity of the airport, the limit is nine air-bridges.
The reconstruction issue for the arrival and departure halls after Bulgaria becomes a Schengen member in 2011 is not resolved yet. The interior of the airport is not easily divisible. For several months, the management has been looking for architectural decisions to solve the problem.
The new building of the airport greeted 3,2 million passengers last year, thus reaching 90% of it’s project capacity – a level originally intended for 2012. This year, the airport kept the same levels of traffic as 2008. So far, the annual growth since 2006 has been 18-23%.
