Bulgarian statistics are up to standards
“During our meeting with the minister Plamen Oresharski, we haven’t discussed concrete numbers. We discussed the situation of the Statistics institute, what is the level of the Bulgarian statistics system and what steps need to be taken to improve it. We haven’t discussed any additional agreements beside the ones already signed with the Bulgarian government”, said the new general director of Eurostat Walter Radermacher.
Radermacher assessed the Bulgarian statistics as reliable, and the director prof. Mariana Kotseva – as an independent expert. He was impressed by the infrastructure of the Statistics institute and was convinced that it was up to European standards. According to him, the equalization of the statistic methods between European countries is a must, so that the data can be reliable for use by any country. The Eurostat director concluded that most important basics are functional, despite several flaws.
