4400 tourists visited Tsarevets – a record

The management of the stronghold “Tsarevets” reported on a record number of tourist visits during the holidays around New Year’s, announced the website dnesbg.com. The provided data from the tourist guides shows that between December 31st and January 3rd, a total of 4295 tourists, both Bulgarian and foreign,visited the capital of the Second Bulgarian kingdom.

Despite the heavy snowfall on Sunday, another 100 tourists visited Tsarevets, announced Ivan Tsarov, director of the Regional history museum in Veliko Tarnovo.

1060 children and students went through the main gate of Tsarevets in the last day of 2008 and the first few days of 2009, announced Sonya Petrova, chief of the tourist guides in Tarnovo. The stronghold was visited by nearly 1000 university students. Despite the low temperatures, 1758 elderly and 495 foreign tourists reached the king’s palace – both organized groups and individual tourists from various nationalities. During Christmas, Tsarevets was visited by 1446 Bulgarians and foreigners.
