Bulgaria Honors Victims of September 11

The US Embassy in Sofia organized Thursday a memorial service in the Sofia shrine “Sveta Nedelya” to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The new US Ambassador to Sofia Nancy McEldowney also took part in the memorial service along with many citizens and a handful of Members of the Parliament.

“Let’s honor the memory of those who lost their lives and their loved-ones as result of the terrorist acts in New York and Washington D.C. in 2001. Lets also honor the innocent, who in 1925 also lost their lives in a terrorist act in this beautiful church,” the Ambassador said during the ceremony.

Asen Agov, representative of the opposition Democrats for Strong Bulgaria party, who was just one of the three Bulgarian politicians to attend the memorial services, used the occasion to say that many of his colleagues did not come, because they did not feel compassionate about somebody else’s tragedy.
