8% threshold for coalitions

The parliament approved the 8% electoral threshold for all parties involved in a coalition, but without an additional increase of threshold regardless of the number of participating parties.

31 members of parliament will be chosen with a majority system in the single-mandate election regions, and 209 members of parliament will be chosen with a proportional system with candidate lists of political parties or coalitions.

Debates for the debatable proposal went on for over four hours. “We approve texts on the second reading, but debate as if it was the first”, stated the DSB member of parliament Ekaterina Mihailova. According to her, the changes that will affect the purity of the elections are too late.
