Two Bulgaria movies nominated for European Film Academy Awards

Two Bulgarian movies “The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner” of Stephan Komandarev and “Dsift” of Yavor Gurdev have been invited to join the list of movies to be nominated for the European Movie Academy awards.

The invitation marks the first time in the Academy Awards 20-year history when two Bulgarian movies are going to be among the 50 contenders.

One week after the Academy’s selection of the first 44 movies to be nominated, among them “Dsift” of Gurdev, “The Word is Big” has also received an invitation.

Komandarev’s movie is going to be sent to the 1650 Academy members to vote for the nominations in the different categories: best European movie, director, screen play, actor, actress, composer and others.

The awards are going to be announced at a special ceremony to be held on December 6 in Copenhagen. The participation of two Bulgarian movies is without precedent in the history of the new Bulgarian cinema.

“The World is Big” is well on its way to break the all time record for a popular Bulgarian movie on the international festival scene. After its premiere in Moscow, in three months, the movie has received invitations to participate in over 20 film festivals.

“The World is Large” is a co-production of Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary and Slovenia. The legendary Karl Baumgartner, producer of Emir Kosturitsa movies is a co-producer of “The World is Large.”

The Bulgarian premiere is scheduled for October 10.
