Traffic problems of Sofia and Plovdiv – solved from space

Europe will help Sofia and Plovdiv take care of the traffic problems, with a regime of traffic lights and time-tables for the public transport.

This was made clear by the list of 185 cities in Europe that will be scanned from space in 2009. These cities will enter the urban atlas – a new initiative meant to help the city planning and the departments responsible for traffic control.

The European space agency will provide the scanning of 3436 square kilometres of Sofia and 1236 kilometres of Plovdiv by satelites. The data will give detailed and precise information on the use of ground infrastructure and will allow the municipality administration to calculate the possibilities of disasters more accurately and timely.
