The northern entrance of the Antique theatre in Plovidv to be opened

The authentical northern entrance of the Antique theatre of Plovdiv will be opened for the upcoming active season. The renovation and use are the final stages of the renovation works of the emblematic building that began in 2008 on the initiative of the municipality of Plovdiv.

The project was financed by the Ministry of culture.

The opening of the northern entrance began in the end of 2008 under the guidance of the archaeologist Maya Martinova-Kiutova and a financing of 70 thousand leva. The northern entrance is a 22-metres tall arch that goes over the highest ring of seats and allows the audience to enter the main aisle of the theatre.

The entrance was partially researched in the period 1982 – 1984 by the archaeologist of the Antique theatre Lidia Botusharova. A box for high ranking guests had been constructed on the level of the second ring of seats.
