Tomorrow, October 16, is the beginning of the national campaign for immunisation against the flue under the motto ‘Are we ready to meet the flu epidemic?’

The most efficient way of protection against the flu is the vaccine. It aims lowering the number of ill people with serious complications such as pneumonia and meningitis which need antibiotic treatment often in a hospital.

The flu is among the most spread infectious diseases. In Bulgaria during the flu epidemic which usually spans around the country for a few weeks 250-300 thousand people get ill.

The epidemics are also pursued by increasing of mortality, connected directly to the flue or to the attendant complications (mostly pneumonias), as well as provoked aggravation of chronic illnesses.
