The coalition barrier is now 8%

The temporary parliamentary commission of the National assembly approved the proposal of the independant deputees Yane Yanev and Dimitar Abadzhiev for the increase of the election bareer for coalitions to 8%.

Seven of the present deputees voted for the change, three were against, and one abstained from voting. When a coalition consists of more than two parties, each additional party adds 1 percent to the initial 8%.

A little before tha approval of the project, Eliana Maseva from the democratic party DSB said, that the change means that either parties will have to resolve their differences permanently, or the next government will have three to four political parties. Despite the limitations, she was confident that SDS and DSB will not have a problem to surpass the 8% barrier.
