Spain and Denmark open their labour market for Bulgarians

Submitted on Saturday, 20 December 2008No Comment

The Spanish government announced it’s decision not to renew the moratorium for admission of Bulgarian citizens to the labour market of Spain, announced the press centre of the Ministry of labour and social politics.

The Spanish media cites politicians – such as the minister of labour and immigration Celestino Korbacho and the national secretary on EU issues Lopez Garido – who say that due to the good economical growth of Bulgaria and Romania, there is a possibility for a reversal of the immigration stream, and workers could return to their homelands.

The Bulgarian embassy received a congratulating phone call from the councillor for immigration Xavier Lasketti for the revocation of the moratorium, and a declaration that states that “the moratorium was unjust and useless”, and only impeded Bulgarian citizens in Spain.

On May 1st 2009, Denmark will remover it’s restrictions on the labour market, imposed on the free transition of workers from the countries that entered the EU in 2004, also icluding Bulgaria and Romania. The official information from the permanent EU delegation in Denmark says that the decision was made this month.
