Songs on St. George’s day

Today, the village Gorski izvor (Forest spring) near Dimitrovgrad hosts one of the biggest Bulgairan folklore events. The authentical national songs are performed by the choirs from cities in southern Bulgaria.

Eearly in the morning, the beautiful southern village started to fill with large groups of singers dressed in traditional garments. There’s a constant flow of performers through the center stage near the village’s church.

The celebration in the village takes place for the fifth consecutive year. In 2009, the number of performers are three times the number they were several years ago. Older, almost forgotten songs were reminded to a wide audience.
