Sofia celebrates the 131st anniversary of it’s Freedom tomorrow

Sofia celebrates the 131st anniversary of it’s Freedom tomorrow. On January 4th 1878, Russian forces lead by general Gurko enter Sofia and free the city of Turkish slavery. The anniversary will be noted with various events.

Traditionally, the mayor’s administration pays tribute to the fallen Russian soldiers in the fights for Bulgarian freedom. A church service will be held at 10 o’clock in the church “St. Nedelya”. The choice of the church has historical reasons – the first service for the fallen was held here, in the presence of general Gurko himself.
