Sofia Airport considers lowering the airport taxes

Submitted on Thursday, 10 September 2009No Comment

The management of Sofia Airport is considering lowering the airport taxes, especially for companies that realize transfer flights through the airport.

The number of transfer flights can increase, if we attract air companies from the Middle East and the US, which will use Sofia as a transit point between them and Western Europe. Thus, the Sofia airport will turn into the distribution center of the Balkans. To make this true however, we’ll need a very well developed infrastructure, said Mariana Kirilova – executive of the marketing department of the airport.

The change will likely not happen until the end of 2009, because the new prices have to be announced at least three months prior to the change. In Bulgaria, the taxes are defined by the Council of ministers.
