Perperikon attracted 225 000 tourists in 2008

“225 000 people visited Perperikon in 2008”, said the archaeologist prof. Nikolay Ovcharov in the morning TV show “Dobro utro, Bulgaria” (Good morning, Bulgaria). The data comes from the Institute for tourism research.

In 2007, one of the most famous archaeological sites in Bulgaria was visited by 185 000 people, which means an increase of the tourist flow by 45 000 people during last year.

“This has become the standard, and we are already getting used to an upsurge in tourism”, said prof. Ovcharov. He added that the construction of a visitor’s center in Perperikon will start in February.
