Over 5 kg. of gold without the markings required by the law were confiscated after the investigation of the agency “National security” and the National agency for income (NAP) in 16 jewellery stores in Haskovo.

Paperwork that proves the origin of another 14 kg. of gold also has to be presented in the next 48 hours.

The investigation found not olny gold, but silver, foreign currency, coins and bronze figures and other historical artifacts. The prosecutor Anton Popov from the Country prosecutor’s office of Haskovo will begin the necessary legal procedures.

Officials from NAP will check up the origins of the valuables. NAP and “National security” suspect that a large portion of that gold was smuggled in Bulgaria without paying the necessary taxes.
