The statements of the Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin during his meeting with the Bulgarian prime minister Boiko Borisov show more of a “pragmatic approach” rather than “tension” in the relations between the two countries.

This was stated by the press secretary of Putin, Dmitrii Peskov, for an interview for the radio “Echo Moscow”.

“There’s no animosity, just pragmatic approach, which is characteristic for the government of Vladimir Putin”, noted Peskov.

In Gdansk Putin discussed the projects “Burgas – Alexandroupolis” and “South stream” with the new Bulgarian prime minister. His statement was “If Bulgaria rejects the execution of the mutual energy projects, Russia will find other ways, and find new ways to co-operate with Bulgaria.”

“To be exact, this was the first eye-to-eye meeting of Putin with the Bulgarian prime minister. Several days before the meeting, the two discussed the same issues at length”, noted Peskov.

According to the press secretary, Putin addressed the statements of Borisov that the “Bulgarian government should review all deals made by the previous government with Russia (“Burgas – Alexandroupolis”, “South stream”, the Nuclear Power Plant “Belene”).” Peskov added: “The Bulgarian government stated that so far, they have received no information on those deals.”
