Greek tourists “siege” Sandanski for Easter

Tourists from Bulgaria’s southern neighbour – Greece – find it cheaper to accomodate in a Bulgarian hotel for three days. The package costs about 250 euro per person. Greek tourists order whole roasted lambs for the holiday, and after dinner fill the taverns and clubs in Sandanski, where alcohol is also much cheaper.

Reservations in the resort were concluded a month before the holiday and there are barely free places. The hotels in Melnik are also filled to the brim.

An excursion to Rupite and the shrine of Vanga and a visit to the monastery in Rozhen and it’s miraculous icon are all favoured destinations for tourists.

On the other side, there are many Bulgarians that choose to spend the Easter holidays in Greece. Thessaloniki, Serres and the northern villages and resorts of Greece are a favoured destination.
