Golden rain awaits Levski in the Champion’s league

Levski faces a unique opportunity to fill their coffers to the maximum. According to the new, higher set financial bonuses for participation in the Champion’s league, the “blue” team can get the enormous sum of 20 million leva if they qualify for the group phase of the largest tournament in Europe. This season, UEFA revised the formats of both major tournaments on the continent and the sums that the participants will share during the next three seasons.

Levski has already guaranteed 200 thousand euro from UEFA just for winning the title in “A” group, and another 130 thousand from their automatic qualification for the second round of the Champion’s league. Levski had luck when the lot was cast – they will face the winner of the weakest pairing in the tournament history – St. Julia (Andora) – Tre Fiori (San Marino).

If they get through this “obstacle”, the financial director of the team Konstantin Badjekov will register another 130 thousand euro for the qualification in the third round. According to the new system, the qualification phase in the Champion’s league doesn’t end at the third round; teams also have to go through a “playoffs” phase, which is a bit different in the financial aspect. Each of the 20 teams that reach the final barrier before the groups, will be awarded with 2,1 million euro – an absolute record for the preliminary phase of any sports event in history.

If the team of Emil Velev takes that step as well and enters the groups, they will take another 7,1 million euro. These large sums don’t include income from ticket sales, advertisements and TV rights. Each point can bring the “blue” team 400 thousand euro. A victory is now evaluated as 800 thousand euro.
