Fishermen want to take care of the Chernomorets port

The local fishermen union of Chernomorets demands that the municipality of Sozopol give them the rights to take care of the port in the village.

Members of the union have already contacted a lawyer to help them prepare the form for demand – either rent or concession. After that, they will send their motivated letter to the mayor Panaiot Reizi.

The port became property of the municipality after a governmental decision last week.

The change of status would allow the regular maintenance of the port and the flow of European funds from various programs, says the fishermen union.

The port in Chernomorets was built 40 years ago with the voluntary labor of the local populace. For years, it has been maintained by members of the fishermen union in the village.

“If the municipality gives the port to an outside investor, it will cause harm to the local populace. Many of us do fishing for a living”, comments the chairman of the union Krasimir Tsankov. He added that the people will note the efforts of the local authorities to change the status of the port.

“From now on, we have to improve the fishing conditions. The case will be solved justly only when the port goes to the hands of the fishermen”, added the municipality councillor and chairman of the Sozopol branch of the democratic party SDS Stoyo Nedin. According to him, the fishermen should have their own port.
