The women volleyball team of Bulgaria qualified directly for the next European championship in 2011, after entering the top 8 of the current championship Euro 2009 in Poland.

This was made possible after Confédération Européenne de Volleyball (CEV) rejected the host duties of Switzerland and gave them to Serbia and Italy. According to the rules, the top 6 teams from the championship in Poland qualify directly to the next. However, Serbia and Italy qualified directly for the top 6 of Euro 2009, which gave the seventh and eighth team the chance to qualify directly as well.

Dia Evtimova and Tanya Germanlieva will play at the finals of the international tennis tournament for women “Interhotel Sandanski Cup”, with 10 000 dollars prize for the winner. Evtimova, в„–1 in the tournament rankings, defeated the Romanian Kristina-Bianka Danaila with 7:6(3), 6:4, and Germanlieva defeated the Macedonian Alexandra Iosifovska (в„–2 in the rankings) with 2:6, 6:3, 6:4.

The finals between Dia Evtimova and Tanya Germanlieva is tomorrow at 11:00 h., on the new courts of the tennis club “Interhotel Sandanski”. The winner from the second edition of the tournament will gain 12 points for the international rankings of WTA and a 1568 dollars prize. The loser in the finals gets 8 points and 980 dollars.

Curiously, this isn’t the first time this tournament hosts finals between players from the same country. Last year’s women finals were between the Dutch players Marlon Medens and Leoni Mekel (3:6, 6:3, 6:3), and the Bulgarian Ivailo Traikov defeated his colleague Tihomir Grozdanov in the finals of the tournament for men a month ago (2:6, 6:4, 6:3).

The current owner of Levski FC Todor Batkov is willing to part with the team for 20 000 000 EUR. This is the sum that the lawyer announced for a Bulgarian businessman interested in purchasing the club.

He is confirmed to be Bulgarian, but his identity is still kept secret. Media sources speculate about a sum of 7 000 000 EUR proposed by the businessman, which was rejected.

Batkov has been negotiating with the unknown businessman for several months. At first, the boss of the “blue” team intended to sell about 30% of his shares of the team. Apparently, Batkov wants the aforementioned 7 million for a third of the share. The buyer however intends to gain full rights on the team with the same sum.

The team of Levski is about to make a sensational “package” transfer of it’s four best players, who will continue their careers in Russia. The champions FC Rubin Kazan have set their sights on Darko Tasevski, Jivko Milanov, Ze Soarez and Iusef Rabeh.

The information was confirmed on the official website of Levski, which announces the interests of the Russians.

This means that the “blue” team might face their eternal adversary CSKA with half of their team this weekend, and it also means that they will rely on young players from now on. The only perplexing issue in the situation is the timing of this transfer – the Russians can not benefit from the new players in the Champions League, while Levski are about to begin a string of several hard matches. In the Russian championship Rubin has no difficulties taking the first spot and are six points ahead of Spartak (Moscow) nine rounds before the end of the season.

The transfer sum for four of the best players of Levski and in the Bulgarian championship as a whole will probably reach 5 million EUR, which isn’t a very high sum compared to other transfers in the Russian league.

The chairman of the Bulgarian motorcycling federation (BFM) Bogdan Nikolov announced the signing of the preliminary contract for a Bulgarian F1 circuit. The documents arrived last week, but haven’t been signed yet. For now, Bulgaria only has a signed agreement to host Moto GP races from 2012 onward.

BFM are aiming for a price of 100 EUR per ticket, which is the minimum price worldwide.

As far as the government is concerned, they support the initiative and have provided the necessary terrain. 3200 decares near the capital Sofia, currently taken up by the airport Dobroslavtzi, will be used for the circuit.

“The only thing left to do is to create a shareholder union with governmental aid. This is all it takes to make the circuit reality”, stated Nikolov.

The Bulgarian was born in 1991 and is considered to be the heir of the current в„–1 in the men’s tennis – Roger Federer. At least according to tennis specialists, including his Swede coach Peter Lundgren – a former coach of Federer.

The Russian Ana Verchenova and the Englishman Tommy King are the winners of the fifth open Mtel golf championship, which took place last week. 140 players from 25 countries took part in the three-day amateur tournament.

The participants were divided into two leagues – the champions league with the stronger players and the plate division for amateurs with higher handicaps. The ladies in the champions league also had separate rankings.

For the first time, the Open championship took place on two golf courses – the Black Sea Rama course and the Lighthouse course. The two divisions played on a different field every day. The strong wind near Balchik added another level of intrigue in the already hard contest.

The Russian group of 11 boys and girls excelled all around the tournament. From start to finish, the main competition was between the three regular participants in the Bulgarian tournament – the Englishmen Tommy King, David Gin and Daniel Jeffreys, and th Russian Mikhail Morozov.

Tommy King defeated Morozov on a purely psychological level at the very end of the tournament. Ana Verenchova was the uncontested winner among the ladies. In the amateur division, Claudiu Stroe took the first place.
