Bulgaria during the World War I

Between June 24th 2009 – February 21st 2010, the Military History Museum in Vienna will host the exhibition “The Unknown Ally – Bulgaria in World War I”.

The exhibition is prepared with the help of the Military History Museum in Sofia. The uniforms, weapons, military plans, documents and photographs on display present the important, but unknown in Austria, role of Bulgaria as an ally of Germany and Austria–Hungary in World War I. Bulgarian and Austrian scientists analyse the Bulgarian contribution and different aspects of the war.

Despite the weakening from the Second Balkan War, in 1915 Bulgaria joins World War I on the side of Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire.
