At the festival of national crafts

“Over 40 million leva will be given next year for extracurricular activities of the students”, said the minister of education and sciences Daniel Valchev today. He opened the First national festival of national customs, arts and crafts “Ot babinata rakla”.

Over 120 students from all over Bulgaria participated in the first edition of the festival. The idea for the festival belongs to the ministry of education in collaboration with the Institute for folklore of BAN, informs the Bulgarian national television.

The children from Chiprovtsi are a great example of the proverb that when there’s a will, there’s a way, and proof that extracurricular activities in the Bulgarian schools can be easily revived. The festival showed many Bulgarian traditions from the region of Chiprovtsi – among them were demonstrations on how to dye a carpet, pottery and weaving demonstrations, wood-carving. All of these activities can be put to great use in extracurricular activities.
