A record number of tourists visited “Chudnite mostove” in 2008

A record-setting number of tourists visited “Chudnite mostove” (The Wondrous Bridges) in 2008, announced the mayor of the nearby village Zaburdo Valentin Cherpokov. Over 100 000 people visited the rock phenomenon during the last year and that defines 2008 as a very successful year for tourism in the region.

Unfortunatelly, the number of foreign tourists was also lower. The few foreign visitors of “Chudnite mostove” and the nearby village in 2008 were mostly Russians. According to the mayor Cherpokov, the reason for this is the insufficient hotel beds in the region. The village has only four houses for guests. There are only two modest mountain hostels in the region.

The tourism potential of the village Zaburdo does not end with “Chudnite mostove”, says the mayor. Among the landmarks of the region are the zoo, the wheel of Zaburda, the monument of the Rodopi hospitality, and over fourty caves.
