56 unique Bulgarian icons at an exhibition in Moscow

The National history museum in Moscow opens the exhibition “Icons from Bulgaria 13th – 19th century” on September 2nd.

The Bulgarian National history museum and the National church history museum are the organizers of the exhibition.

The exhibition includes 56 unique icons from the period and a shroud from the Bachkovo monastery (15th century) – some of the most memorable pieces of church art in Bulgarian history.

Every art piece is from the archives of the National history museum, the History museum of Varna and the private collection of the great Bulgarian artist Svetlin Rusev.

This is the second exhibition dedicated to the Christian cultural heritage of Bulgaria, organized by the Bulgarian and Russian National history museums after the previous one in 2003.
