“Travelling with a train between Sofia and Plovdiv will take only 40 minutes”, announced the vice-manager of the National company “Railway infrastructure” Hristo Alexiev.

The railway that connects the capital city and Plovdiv will be renovated, allowing trains to reach higher speeds – between 160 and 200 kmph.

“The railway will be renovated with funds from the Operative program “Transport”. The application form for the reconstruction of the section is expected in September. The reconstruction itself will cost about 400 million leva”, announced the minister of transport Petar Mutafchiev.

“The speed railway will be finished as late as 2015”, said Alexiev.

The section Sofia-Plovdiv is part of the project for the construction of a corridor between Serbia and Turkey which passes through Bulgaria.
