161th anniversary of Hristo Botev’s birth

One of the most powerful Bulgarian poets, and inspiring revolutionary – Hristo Botev – was born on January 6th 1848 in Kalofer.

Botev lived only 28 years, but created eternal works that have their place in society even today.

The official ceremony in front of the monument of Hristo Botev in the “Borisova” garden began today at 13:00 PM.

It was organized by the “Hristo Botev” foundation, the Ministry of defence and the Sofia municipality. The ceremony was opened by Yordanka Fandakova, vice-mayor of the Sofia municipality. The vice-minister of education and science Kircho Atanasov also made a speech.

Students from the 21st high school “Hristo Botev” presented a poetry reading. The vice-president Angel Marin also joined the celebration.

Hristo Botev Petkov is a Bulgarian national hero, revolutionary, poet and publicist, born on January 6th 1848 in the city Kalofer in the family of the teacher and prominent social figure Botio Petkov and Ivanka Boteva.
